Privacy Policy

Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how Qouva ("we", "us") collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal information when you use our website and services (the "Platform"). We are committed to handling your data responsibly and in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act and other applicable laws.

1Information We Collect

We collect information in three ways:

  • Information you give us: your name, email address, phone number, password, profile and business details, listing content and photos, messages, reviews, and payment-related details you submit.
  • Information we collect automatically: device and browser information, IP address, pages viewed, listings and searches you interact with, approximate location, and cookies or similar technologies.
  • Information from third parties: details from sign-in providers (such as Google) when you choose to connect them, and confirmations from our payment processor.

2How We Use Your Information

  • To create and manage your account and verify your identity and phone number.
  • To operate the marketplace, publish your listings, and enable messaging between users.
  • To process payments for plans and promotions.
  • To personalise content, rank and recommend listings, and improve the Platform.
  • To send service messages, security alerts, and, where permitted, marketing you can opt out of.
  • To detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and security or technical issues.
  • To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.

4How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed:

  • With other users: the public parts of your profile and listings, and the details you choose to share when messaging. Your privacy settings control what is visible.
  • With service providers: payment processors, hosting, messaging/SMS, email, analytics, and search providers who process data on our behalf under appropriate safeguards.
  • For legal reasons: when required by law, regulation, or valid legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of Qouva, our users, or the public.
  • In a business transfer: as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.

5Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, measure performance, and improve the Platform. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though some features may not work properly without them.

6Data Retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the services. We may retain certain information for longer where required to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, and enforce our agreements. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it.

7Your Rights

Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you and request a copy.
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Request deletion of your information, or close your account.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent.
  • Opt out of marketing communications at any time.

You can manage much of this directly in your account settings, or contact us to exercise your rights. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the relevant data protection authority.

8Security

We use technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit, hashed passwords, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Keep your password confidential and contact us if you suspect any unauthorised access.

9Children's Privacy

The Platform is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us so we can remove it.

11International Transfers

Your information may be processed or stored on servers located outside your country. Where we transfer data internationally, we take steps to ensure it remains protected in line with this Policy and applicable law.

12Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes we will update the effective date and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Platform after changes take effect means you accept the updated Policy.
